Makarska Riviera

EXPLORE MAKARSKA RIVIERA

The Riviera is anchored by Makarska, a lively town at the foot of the Biokovo Mountains, where breezy promenades, beach cafés, and open-air markets meet historic churches and cultural events. From here, you can explore smaller coastal villages like Brela, Baška Voda, Tučepi, and Podgora, each offering its own mix of peaceful beaches, seaside restaurants, and local character.

What sets Makarska Riviera apart is the variety of activities right at your doorstep. Hike or cycle through Biokovo Nature Park, home to native wildlife and the stunning Skywalk Biokovo, a glass viewing platform perched 1,200 meters above sea level. For thrill-seekers, the area offers paragliding, rock climbing, and sea kayaking, with views that stretch from the islands of Brač and Hvar to the mountains of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Find safe, well-equipped beaches with shallow waters in places like Brela’s Punta Rata, one of the most photographed beaches in Croatia. The coastline is dotted with natural shade from pine trees, making it easy to spend a full day by the sea. Water sports, paddle boat rentals, and beachside playgrounds add to the family-friendly atmosphere.

Makarska is also a convenient base for island-hopping and day trips. Ferries and boat tours regularly connect the town with Brač, Hvar, and Korčula, while inland excursions take visitors to Imotski’s Blue and Red Lakes or the historic town of Mostar just across the border. With good road connections and plenty of guided tour options, it’s easy to explore the region from one central point.
